Pursuing Professional Development

This course will discuss what professional development is and why it is important for you to engage in professional development throughout your teaching career. Giving practical advice and concrete examples, Pursuing Professional Development will show how even very busy teachers can engage in professional development. You will leave this course with ideas of how to use professional development practices in your daily life.

This course includes a knowledgeable and caring instructor who will guide you through your lessons, facilitate discussions, and answer your questions.

Dr. Andy Curtis is the Director of the School of English at Queen's University in Kingston, Ontario, Canada. He is also an associate professor in the Faculty of Education at Queen's and he maintains links with the School for International Training in Vermont, USA. Andy has published textbooks in the field of professional development and has written the professional development component of World Link and World Pass, two of Thomson's newest English series. He travels around the world giving workshops on professional development practices.

Requirements:

    Internet access, e-mail, and the Microsoft Internet Explorer or Mozilla Firefox Web browser.

Syllabus:

    All courses run for six weeks, with a two-week grace period at the end. Two lessons are released each week for the six-week duration of the course. You do not have to be present when the lesson is released, but you must complete each lesson within two weeks of its release.

    A new section of each course starts on the second or third Wednesday of each month. If enrolling in a series of two or more courses, please be sure to space the start date for each course at least two months apart.
